Renualt clio 1.4 1994 problems, with some questions..?

The car has done about 140,000 miles and has the following problems.

1. alarm system doenst work. Sensor circuit board near sunroof has water damage. I dont know if that is the only faulty part.

2. Car uses water, so have been tol to install a new head gasket

3. Cambelt wil need changing in 40,000 miles

4. Oil sump has rotted through, and requires patching or replacing.

5. passanger electric window seems jammed. On inspection one of the foam runner had fell out of its place. Replacing it didnt make any diffrence as when i press the button i hear a clicking like the motor is trying to work, but nothing happens.

My questions are.

1- Do i need o remove the engine to replace the oil sump?

2- do i need to remove the engine to replace the cam belt?

3- wold it wodk out cheaper to buy a replacement engine?

4- How do i remove the electric window assembly from the glass, so i can test the motor works and if the mechansm is seized of broken?

With all the work required to put this right my only advise would be to scrap it.

once you spend about 拢300 maybe more fixing it, its going to let you down from the mileage with it being a clio, put a forsale sign on it for 拢250 outside a university... some1 might buy it for a first car
Ok Here we go...i will answer each of your questions and then give a proper response afterwards...

1 - No- just unbolt it from the bottom

2- No- But its obviously a tight squeeze if you don't

3- No- That would cost time and labour as well as the engine - (more information on this answer later...)

4- There will be two blots holding the window to the mechanism, then the mechanism is bolted to the motor.

Now for the proper answer...

You obviously don't know a lot about cars, and for this reason i strongly suggest you don't do the work...

I can tell this just by the questions you are asking about the car.

Second, You seem to have bought his car or been given it maybe by a friend recently- heres the low down....

The parts you should be able to get from a scrap yard the sump will be about 拢20 - do not patch this- the hot oil will eventually come through when the engine is hot or running.

The cam belt is a tricky thing to replace- a because it has to placed in the EXACT same place as the last on- other wise the engine will not be timed proper and will therefor rip your engine to pieces.- or pull the cam shaft out.

a replacement engine- to pickup the cheapest way would again be the scrap yard- your looking at 拢110 - 拢200 and your gonna have to remove it and carry it yourself- otherwise you could gets a new one which may cos you 拢2000 - 拢3000- your choice!!!

The electric window - to get to that you'll have to dismantle the whole door- there usually unnecessarily tricky - also the motor should be fine if its clicking- its trying to work- the mechanism however seems to be jamming it.

Ther you go!!! - Steve
right 1+2 no you dont need too remove engine

3-do you mean a reconditioned engine then no do you mean a second hand engine then it may round same price but how long before it needs t/belt or head gasket

4-if you strip the door down and cant find any bolts or screws holding it on then it may be riveted on which you will need too drill the rivets off.but have you tried working the window by hand while some one presses the button as this may give you some indication if the motor is working or the window is jamming

sounds like a haynes manual may come in handy for yourself if you dont want to buy one your local library can get one in
